The language of God

Math is the language of God.

I'm almost done with the second year of my math major. So far I've studied calculus, linear algebra, real analysis, probability, statistics, and Bayesian inference, plus algorithms and coding.

Why I love it

Math gives you abstract ideas that turn out to be the foundation for everything. Once you speak its language, you can apply it anywhere.

It's also deeply rewarding. You read a topic, then read it again, and again, and again — and then it clicks. You can finally see the idea in your head.

The hard part

The major is very, very difficult. It has the highest dropout rate at my university.

For me, the hardest part is time management. If I want to really excel in a class, it takes a huge amount of time. So I'm constantly choosing between classes and my own projects. At the end of the week, the question is always the same: do I meet friends, study math, or build my app? That trade-off is tough.

Main quest, side quest

For me, my projects come first. Right now, the app is my main quest, and math is my side quest.

Still, I've always loved challenging myself and learning new things. Next, I'd like to take some physics courses — applying the math I've learned to reality is something that really excites me.
